The charger communicates with the battery's built-in chip throughout the charging process to optimize battery life by actively controlling current, voltage, and temperature. The result is category-leading charge times. For Makita 18V LXT� batteries, the DC18RE will charge a 2.0Ah battery in only 25 minutes, a 3.0Ah battery in only 30 minutes, a 4.0Ah battery in only 40 minutes, a 5.0Ah in only 45 minutes, and a 6.0Ah battery in only 55 minutes. For 12V max CXT� slide-style batteries, the DC18RE will charge a 2.0Ah battery in only 30 minutes and a 4.0Ah battery in only 60 minutes. The DC18RE is a sequential charger and will charge one battery at a time.
